10 years and still going...the Sony VAIO anniversary and Vaio TZ Video
The first generation of SONY laptops saw the light of day in 1997 and was called VAIO for Video Audio Integrated Operation...a name that managed to stay on top of the game ever since...
Thanks to the incredible success of the Playstation console in the video games market (1994), SONY decided to try his luck in another category...the Personal Computers.
By the time SONY entered the "PC battlefield", most products were bland and similar, what the Japanese giant did was to come up with new colors and great performances, of course the prices were not what you can call affordable...but compared to their "real" value, it was a great deal!

Among all the VAIOs that came out over the years, some were really excellent and I believe I owned 80% of all!!
Here is a little list of some of the best VAIO I had the chance to use over the years (notebooks):
The PCG-505 (1997), I still have one of those and it's still working!!
The U Series (2002), amazing machines when it came out and still going strong when running under UX. EACH version spend some time in my hands and I still have one here, at the Akihabara News office!
The PCG-C1 (1998 ) was the first one to feature a built-in webcam.
The X505 (2003), 700g of technology in a carbon box...OUTSTANDING machine when it came out and we still haven't seen a real successor to it...
The VAIO Z (2003) Great design and performances...a huge commercial success for SONY.
Among the Desktops there are the T series (1997) and R series (1999), first computers good enough for high quality video editing and much much more affordable than professional solutions.
Also on my list the PCM-V ( 1998 ) with MD player, the PCV-L (1999) with PS2 look with the excellent possibility to plug it to my TV and watch DVDs and VCDs...
Last but not least the Type X, a wonderful and powerful machine.
That's it for my list, to end this article I have a little video about the brand new VAIO Type TZ...I didn't pay attention to the performances because SONY decided to put a Celeron in the one I had and well...a Celeron...anyway with the right CPU this baby can really be excellent...enjoy the video!
