MayBank and Maxis enter into mobile payments alliance
Mobile operator Maxis Communications Berhad has entered into a strategic alliance with financial services provider MayBank to offer its consumers the ability to make payments from their mobile handsets.
The service, Maxis' M-money, is the first complete mobile money service offered in Malaysia, and will enable its nine million customers to transfer money anywhere in the country at anytime, and purchase selected goods and services via their mobile phone.
Consumers will be able to instantly credit their M-money account via their mobile using Maybank Financial Services (MFS) or walk in to selected Maxis centers or DropZone outlets.
At launch, customers can pay online for pizza from Domino's Pizza, mobile content downloads from Maxis and the new myzone teen portal at Maybank2u.com and pay their Maxis bills or Hotlink top-up through M-money. M-money enables customers to pay in advance just using their mobile phone number, without a credit card.
In addition, Maxis companies will soon be able to remit money from mobile to mobile to friends and families within neighboring countries with Maxis international mobile remittance service.
Moreover, the two parties have plans to further collaborate to offer additional services around the concept of 'wave n pay,' which would see customers being able to use their mobile phone as a touch and go card for transportation or their Visa Wave credit card for purchases.
