Wi-Fi Alliance: Testing “N” Interoperability
Posted by samc on June 25th, 2007The Wi-Fi Alliance has started interoperability testing of 802.11n Draft 2.0 products, notes Engadget.
“WiFi Certified” products should be available this summer. Products based on the new IEEE 802.11n draft deliver up to five times the throughput and up to twice the range of those based on previous standards and will be backward compatible with them.
The Draft 2 certification program of the MIMO-based IEEE 802.11n standard includes WPA2 security, WMM (Wi-Fi Multimedia) with QoS for voice and video streaming, and compatibility with legacy 802.11a/b/g Wi-Fi networks.
Many vendors have stated that their Wi-Fi CERTIFIED 802.11n draft 2.0 products will be software-upgradeable to the eventual IEEE 802.11n standard. The Wi-Fi CERTIFIED
program guarantees these products interoperate with each other and that they are backwards compatible with and friendly to the legacy 802.11a/b/g systems.
