Ubuntu Planing Mobile Linux

Developers will meet in Spain at the end of this week, to plan out the details for the Ubuntu Mobile and Embedded project.

This new project will be based on the Debain Linux Kernel, and will allow Intel’s new low-power processor and chip set to take full advantage of the mobile devices.

Intel currently supports the Gnome Mobile and Embedded Initiative (GMAE), a similar project that was announced at the Embedded Linux Conference in California. All code is open source, and is open to manufacturers and developers.

Currently, Ubuntu Linux has been gaining popularity. Last week, Dell announced that they would load Ubuntu Linux onto it’s PCs and laptops, giving consumers a break on Microsoft’s Demanding prices for their windows operating system.

The challenge for the new operating system, includes a new graphical user interface design, and power management capabilities.

Ubuntu Mobile is scheduled for release in October of this year.
