OLPC update

OLPC Delays XO-3 Prototype

Posted by Sam Churchill on November 4th, 2010
One Laptop Per Child is working to design an unbreakable screen and thus may not have the XO-3 prototypes ready to show at CES this January, reports ARM Devices.
Nicholas Negroponte, chairman of OLPC told PC World (above) that the XO-3 tablet computer will debut sometime in February 2011, about 45 days later than originally planned.
An unbreakable and sunlight readable Pixel Qi screen is an important feature of the XO-3 to make it a viable option for developing countries, as well as its abilities to be used for full productivity and for fast text input.
Android Tablets are beginning to fall from the sky.
The Archos 43 is now shipping with Android 2.2 (in an Archos skin), a 4.3″ FWVGA screen (480×854 pixels), a 1GHz ARM processor and 16GB of flash memory for $250. It also comes in an 8GB version, but that’s not currently an option at the Archos store.
The ARCHOS 70 internet tablet(right), comes in 8 Gig ($274) and 16 Gig ($349) versions with HDMI out for connection to a large screen TV. The 10″ Archos Tablet includes Android 2.2, Micro SD card slot and 8 Gig ($299) and 16 Gig ($349) versions.

ArmDevices.net says the Archos 101 is one of the most affordable 10.1″ capacitive Android 2.2 ARM Cortex A8 45nm tablets, with built-in HDMI output for $299 for the 8GB model with MicroSD slot. It’s 30% lighter than the iPad with 12% more screen surface.
