Sacramento Gets Sprint WiMAX
Posted by Sam Churchill on November 15th, 2010Sprint today announced that its WiMAX service is now available in Sacramento, California.
In Sacramento, CLEAR covers nearly 1.2 million people. Regionally, service extends out to Davis to the West, to Elk Grove in the South, to Roseville/Folsom out to the East and Natomas to the North. Here’s their coverage map.
With the addition of Sacramento, Sprint 4G can now be found in 62 markets across the country, including Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Houston and New York City.
Sprint 4G plans to light up several other major markets by the end of the year, including Los Angeles, San Francisco, Miami, Denver and Washington, D.C. The company has already delivered 4G in California to Merced, Modesto, Stockton and Visalia.
Earlier this month, Clearwire said it is taking several measures to conserve cash as it seeks to secure new funding. These measures include a reduction in sales and marketing, delaying plans to launch Clear-branded smartphones, suspend operations in select markets such as Denver and Miami, cut its workforce and contractors and suspend development activities for cell sites that aren’t part of its current buildout plan, reports Fierce Wireless.
