iMac Gets “N”

Apple announced new iMacs this morning, that are thinner, faster, less expensive, and built from aluminum and glass. Engadget says the completely new design will come in two sizes: 20-inch and 24-inch.

There’s the usual compliment of ports like USB 2.0, Firewire 400 / 800, a slot loading SuperDrive, iSight camera and 802.11n.

Under the hood Apple has up to a 2.4GHz Core 2 Extreme processor, ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro graphics, 1TB of storage, 802.11n and Bluetooth 2.0, with 8x SuperDrives and 1GB of RAM standard across the board.

Prices start at $1,199 for the 20-inch, $1,499 for a processor and graphics bump, and $1,799 for the 24-incher.

Jobs said the Mac Mini has been refreshed, too. But the specs (1.66GHz or 1.83GHz Intel Core Duo processor, Apple Remote with Front Row, up to 2GB memory and Intel GMA 950 graphics processor) appear to be the same (ie, no Core 2 Duo).

Apple’s AirPort Extreme Base Station ($179 at Amazon) features 802.11n. It has been available for some time.
